ZapEvents Privacy Policy

zapEvents ("the App") provides Google Tag Manager DataLayer setup and e-commerce event tracking services ("the Service") to merchants who use Shopify to power their stores. This Privacy Policy describes how personal information is collected, used, and shared when you install or use the App in connection with your Shopify-supported store.

Personal Information the App Collects

When you install the App, we are automatically able to access certain types of information from your Shopify account:

  • Customer Data: Name, email address, phone number, physical address, and browsing behavior of your store visitors

  • Store Owner Information: Name, email address, phone number, and physical address

  • Store Analytics: Access to edit pixels and view analytics data

  • Online Store Data: Access to edit your store's theme for DataLayer implementation

  • Customer Browsing Behavior: Information about how customers interact with your store

Additionally, we collect the following types of personal information from you and/or your customers once you have installed the App:

  • Technical Information: IP addresses, browser and operating system details, client ID cookies

  • Behavioral Data: Browsing behavior, page views, and interaction with store elements

  • Device Information: Time zone settings and information about cookies installed on visitor devices

  • E-commerce Event Data: Information about customer actions such as product views, cart additions, and purchase completions

We collect personal information directly from the relevant individual, through your Shopify account, or using the following technologies:

  • "Cookies" are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.

  • "Log files" track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

  • "Web beacons," "tags," and "pixels" are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

  • "DataLayer Events" are JavaScript-based tracking mechanisms that capture user interactions and e-commerce activities on your store.

How Do We Use Your Personal Information?

We use the personal information we collect from you and your customers in order to provide the Service and to operate the App. Additionally, we use this personal information to:

  • Implement and maintain Google Tag Manager DataLayer functionality on your store

  • Track standard e-commerce events and customer interactions

  • Communicate with you regarding app updates, features, and support

  • Optimize or improve the App's performance and features

  • Provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services

  • Ensure proper firing of tracking pixels and analytics tools

  • Debug and troubleshoot DataLayer implementation issues

  • Generate analytics insights to help improve your store's performance

Sharing Your Personal Information

We may share your Personal Information with the following third parties:

  • Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics: To enable tracking and analytics functionality

  • Third-party tracking platforms: As configured by you through Google Tag Manager

  • Service providers: Who assist us in operating the App and providing the Service

  • Technical partners: Who help maintain and improve our DataLayer infrastructure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

Your Rights

If you are a European resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us through the contact information below.

Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you install our App through Shopify), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to India and potentially the United States.

Data Retention

We will maintain the information collected through the App for our records as long as you continue to use the App. If you uninstall the App, we will delete or anonymize your information within 90 days, unless we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory reasons. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at the email address below.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
